Set Building Workshop Series
Come learn how to build the set of a real theater production - the upcoming San Francisco Youth Theater play “Mysterious Stranger”. In this 5 day workshop, you will learn how to build scenery flats, platforms and steps with a small team.
San Francisco Youth Theatre (SFYT) transforms youth and communities through fully-accessible opportunities in theatre arts creation, education, and performance. With focused outreach to youth from historically underserved communities, SFYT programs are designed to foster personal growth, create lasting social impact, and elevate the genre of youth theatre through the development of artworks that speak to the unique sensibilities of youth.
Mark Twain's The Mysterious Stranger exposes the hypocritical rules of society, or what Twain calls “the moral sense.” Set in the 1590s village Austria, the story follows three teenagers who encounter a stranger from the 20th century who reveals to them that their “perfect” village is fractured by gossip, greed, religion, and most brutally, witch hunts. Using magic, illusion, and Twain’s trademark humor, the Stranger challenges the teens to find their own moral compass amidst the hypocrisy justified by their elders as “moral”. This is a world premiere theatre production that uses music, shadow puppetry, projections, and storytelling. Opens February 19, 2026 in San Francisco.
